Alphabet Rhyme Sneak Peek . . . . . . . .

This space is perfect for showing you sneak peeks of upcoming designs.  Alphabet Rhyme, along with Bee Sampler are shipping next week to our distributors.  No one has it yet so don't look for them. However I am sure your shops will love hearing from you if you want to reserve copies.

The Making of an American Sampler. . . . . . . . . .

My dear Friend Liz Gorski has undertaken a monumental project. . . . . . . . one that I plan to follow closely.  To see what she has planned with your own eyes go to http://howtomakeanamericansampler.blogspot.com/

Liz is not only a contributor of crossword puzzles to the NY Times but she is an accomplished musician and owns her own needlework design company, Primrose Needleworks.

Miss Molly enjoying the summer like temperatures. . . . . . . .

Summer has unofficially arrived in Tucson.  It is almost 90 degrees.  Molly isn't a big sun-pup any more. . . . . . she prefers the shade with a nice nylon bone to chew.  Molly's cancer is back and we are almost certain she has had her last surgery.  We feel happy that she made it to her 11th birthday (February 15th) but don't really expect her to be here for her 12th.  In the meantime we are just lovin' on that old dog like there's no tomorrow!

Over One Stitching. . . . . . . . .

I picked this up from the framer a few weeks ago.  My friend, Mary Jo Hayes stitched this for me 'over one'.  Thank you Mary Jo!

From frame to design. . . . . . . . . .

"Be True"
One of our current releases, "Be True" started in a much different way than most of our designs.  I had first seen this frame at the annual Crescent Colours Thanksgiving dinner Sharon holds for her family and ours.  I could see it on the wall and had to go up to it to appreciate the beauty.  Weeks later I asked her if I could have it as inspiration for a design.  I set it in front of me and created the pattern for "Be True".  It was a perfect match.  This design has generated a lot of email from stitchers as I believe it "speaks" to most of us!

LHN blog is back. . . . . . . .

After a short break from creating entries for this blog, I'm back.  Future entries will focus on the patterns, how they became published designs, what's happening in our pattern line, etc.  I hope you all will love the new format.  It may take a while to get all of our readers back but we'll be glad to have you when you get here!

News on Miss Molly. . . . . . .

This blog wouldn't be entirely complete for me if I didn't post a new photo of Molly.  She turned the corner yesterday and is doing just great.  What we find now is that we have an extremely spoiled dog.  Not that she wasn't spoiled before, but when we thought we were losing her we pulled out all the stops.  It's ok.  The children are gone, have homes of their own and children of their own so spoiling the dog just "is what it is"!  She is taking her morning walk to the park, rolling in the grass, and chasing a butterfly here and there.  Life is good for the fur baby.  (She's posing with her good side!)

Over One LHN Designs. . . . .

I have a dear friend, Mary Jo Hayes that has been stitching some of my designs over one thread for a few years.  Just yesterday I took Pear Tree Inn to the framer, decideing they needed to get out of the drawer and into my living space.  This is Two Red Houses, unframed, and heading out next!  See the tiny dime?  You have to have really good eyes for this type of stitching!

Molly's Second Surgery. . . . . . . . .

Molly is resting peacefully after having a second surgery to remove another cancerous tumor.  She's already back to smiling (yes, she smiles), tail wagging, eating and drinking.  She isn't quite out of trouble yet (she's had a few ups and downs since Wednesday) but it looks like she's going to be around for a while.  What a sleeping beauty!

Molly update. . . . . . . .

For those of you following Molly's health and wondering . . . . . . . . yes, she is still with us!  The tumor is growing back as we knew it would but she is doing really well.  It's fun to see her romp again and get her toys out.  No telling what the future holds for her but for now we are just happy she is still with us.  You can see from the photo that her fur grew back completely!

Late fall in the desert . . . . . . . . .

It is always the hope that the Bouganvilla bush makes it through the winter freezes and frost.  Right now the brackets are blooming wildly.  With temperatures in the 70's (and it's December 3rd) this bush will be covered in no time in shades of bright fuschia.

Good 'ole Molly . . . . . . .

Molly has far exceeded our hopes this year.  For a 10-1/2 year old dog with cancer and heart failure, she is doing surprisingly well.  This is the latest photo of her in the yard enjoying her day.  What a girl!

Fall in the Desert. . . . . .

Geranium

Mums

Fall to me is planting flowers that will last at least part of the way through winter.  My geraniums had taken a real beating this summer as the heat baked the life out of them.  While the rest of the country prepares for snow and ice, we prepare for gorgeous blooms!  I also picked up some delicate little violas, mums and petunias.

Copyright Concerns . . . . . .

The needlework industry on a whole has seen a rise in the posting of "shared" copyright protected material on the internet.  Such activity is illegal.  Designers are protected by international copyright laws.  If you upload copyrighted material, you are breaking the law.  If you download the material you are also breaking the law.  If in doubt. . . . . .. ask the designer!  Report the charts you find uploaded to the web directly to the designer, not friends.  Make a difference and post notices on your blogs that you do not participate in such activity and urge others not to as well.

Spring . . . . . or is it summer?

Warm desert temps have produced the most gorgeous greenery.  We have to enjoy it now as the rising temperatures are on their way along with the monsoons.  I captured these beautiful blooms from our back yard.  Today it's 85 degrees  . . . .  weather to live outdoors in.

Molly in June

And then there's Molly. . . . . fully recovered and enjoying the sunshine.  Sun      Her fur will take some time to grow back but no one seems to notice much any more that she seems to be having a bad hair day.

Sleeping in strange places. . . . . .

Molly Under the Table
Things are back to normal in our house.  Just one week after major surgery, Molly is sleeping and resting in her normal spots around the house.  I use the word "normal" loosely as I am not sure under a table with your head resting on chair rungs is.  Her stitches come out in less than a week.

Bird Watching

Day three - bird watching
There is hope that today will be more "normal" for all of us . . . . . . . Molly was up bright and early at the back door to do some bird watching.  It seems that major surgery cannot squelch the desire to track winged creatures.

And he said . . . . . . .

Molly

First day home

Saturday Update:  Dog face Up, walking, eating and acting (for the most part) like this is just a huge inconvenience.  She's tired, still coughing and walking a bit funny.  What a difference a day makes.  Maybe by tomorrow I'll get some work done instead of just staring at her and worrying.

Friday: Dog faceShe's tired but home.  Molly had surgery to remove a very large cancerous tumor yesterday.  I'm sitting and stitching right beside her.  She looks up at me with those big dark eyes as if to say "what happened"?  She is feeling "ok" today.
